There's something truly magical about summer weekends in Texas that tug at my heartstrings and remind me of hot, long, slow days growing up here.
Recently, I spent a delightful weekend intentional doing the things that I love to do most this time of year in the Texas Hill Country, and I’m thrilled to share my experiences with you. Whether you're planning a visit or just looking to experience the lone star state, I'd love for you to come along with me for a quintessential Texas summer weekend.

Friday : Discovering Historic Gruene, TX
I wanted to start the weekend off right, and there's no better way to do that than spending a little bit of time in the historic town of Gruene, TX.
Nestled in the heart of the Hill Country, Gruene is home to the legendary Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas. Walking through this charming town feels like stepping back in time. If you ever want to visit a town that feels like it's been plucked straight from a movie set, this is it.
A visit to Gruene is not complete without a meal at the Gristmill. This iconic restaurant, housed in the town’s old cotton gin, serves up quintessential Texas cuisine. The combination of delicious food, rustic ambiance, and scenic views of the Guadalupe River makes it a must-visit. I highly recommend the onion rings and jalapeño margaritas.
After a satisfying meal -- my best travel companion and I shared a chicken salad sandwich and their pulled pork sandwich. Both delicious -- I wandered into a few shops including the local general store, the Gruene Hat Shop, and shopped at the amazing antique store right in the middle of town. It’s a treasure trove of unique finds and vintage charm, perfect for anyone who loves a bit of history.
Saturday Morning: A Fresh Floral Morning
I love adding fresh florals to my home weekly, and my favorite place to get them is a local farm where they grow and source flowers from Texas farms.
So Saturday morning, I visited Arnosky Farms in Blanco, TX. This is such a hidden local gem. I couldn’t resist buying some fresh peonies; the vibrant colors and delicate fragrance of these blooms brought a piece of the Hill Country right into my living room.
Saturday Night: A true Evening out in Texas at the Rodeo
A perfect Texas Summer isn't complete without a visit to the Rodeo. As the sun began to set, I headed to Tejas Rodeo Co. in Bulverde, TX.
This family-owned venue and working ranch offers an authentic rodeo experience every Saturday night from March through November. The excitement of the rodeo show, followed by live Texas country music and dancing, always makes for an unforgettable evening. And let’s not forget their amazing steakhouse, perfect for satisfying those Texas sized food cravings. With activities for the whole family, Tejas Rodeo Co. is a true Texas experience.
Sunday: A Relaxing Sunday at the Blanco Lavender Festival
The Sunday that I shared was a bit of a throwback because it actually took place at the beginning of June; however, I just had to share it in this video with you, because it is truly something that I look forward to every single year.
So back in June, I enjoyed a quiet and relaxing Sunday at the Blanco Lavender Festival. This annual event celebrates all things lavender with local makers, great food, and live music. Strolling through the festival, surrounded by the soothing scent of lavender, was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on a weekend well spent.
From the historic charm of Gruene to the vibrant blooms of Arnosky Farms, the excitement of a Bulverde rodeo, and the serenity of the Blanco Lavender Festival, the Texas Hill Country offers a summer weekend like no other. A nostalgic experience that just sings to the little girl in me.
Whether you’re a local or a visitor, I hope this little weekend I shared inspires you to explore and enjoy the beauty and culture of this remarkable place.
Don't forget to check out my video for a closer look at these incredible experiences. Happy travels!
Lots of Love,
Brit
